Hotel Group, I met my mate (who's a regular in here) and commented over
a pint, "This place will be pretty nice when it's done up". He
looked at me for a hint of sarcasm and said, "It just has been".
The Fox, you see, has protected decoration, or something like that, which
means new owners can't transform it into the latest Oirish/Australian/Outer
Mongolian theme bar horror story, as they so often do. This is a Good Thing
(I think) even in cases where you might think a lick of paint and touch
of varnish would freshen things up. There's no doubt this pub is pretty
much a local's local, despite the relentless stream of tourist vehicles
passing it on the busy A59 outside, and it seems the ideal place to frequent
for a game of doms and a chat about nothing after a hard day's work. So
I'll have to visit it the next time I have such a day, which means there's
a great risk that this could be far in the future. |
