| You know how you approach some pubs and notice loads of BMW's, Mercedes and sports
coupes parked outside and you think "tosser alert"? You approach the Minster Inn and notice all the bikes
parked outside and you think "Real Ale, No Frills" alert. This is what you get. The pub has one of those
front doors that make you think you may well be entering somebody's living room, and you do find yourself in a
small hall with a serving hatch on the right. Buy yourself a pint of good beer and take your pick from three small
lounges (one thoughtfully non-smoking). Admire pictures of the Minster. Wonder why it's so quiet, and remind yourself
to look up what style of pub decor this is (original Edwardian). I had hoped the Minster to be an undiscovered
gem on the tour of York pubs, but I'm afraid I have put it down on the "basic, favourite with regulars"
list. |
