Jim's York Pub Guide |
This page provides links to other independant UK Internet Pub Guides that I think give a good indication of the pubs to be found in a specific area. I like sites that are written by locals, are opinionated, shun sponsorship and try to cover as many outlets as possible. I've also been a bit biased in that I've mostly selected cities and towns that I have visited myself and supped a pint in.
If you know of any good sites, please e-mail me and I will include them in the list.
Somewhere Near Pub Guide Page
I leaned heavily on this listing to find pub guides in the UK, but I haven't checked all the sites out yet. It's a good place to start, but won't tell you anything about the sites themselves - it's a bit pot luck.Bath - Mark's Guide
Short, amusing reviews and some pictures of local pubs. Helpful advice like "Don't visit this pub if you're a fat bastard as there just isn't room". The photo of The Saracen's Head just shows how difficult it is to get a good photo of a pub building!Liverpool
Another city that cries out for a decent pub guide. When I visited it was difficult to find anything on a night that wasn't touristy and claimed "The Beatles Drank Here". This site is short and sweet, with pictures and reviews, and maybe I'll refer to it if I visit again. Doesn't include a review of The Baltic Fleet which, for some reason, is one of my favourite pub names. This alternative Liverpool pub guide has at least got a picture.London
Has more Pub Guides than you could shake a stick at, but this is one of the best I've visited. Over a hundred reviews, giving history, opening hours, photographs, beers served, you name it. Try this review of the White Cross pub in Richmond as an example. Best thing is there is a Slug and Lettuce right next door which is completely and rightfully ignored. Anyone drinking in London who heads for a chain deserves to be shot.Stockport
This is what we want. A deeply informative pub guide to a town you may otherwise miss. As far as I am concerned, sites like this make the Internet worthwhile.Doncaster
A relatively new and therefore up to date site that will keep you away from the horses when you visit the town.Newcastle
Entitled "The Burglars Dog", this is an almost Viz style guide that finds something to slag off in every pub visited. It's a good site though, and I might nick some of their design ideas. Also made me think that my reviews are too nice!Cardiff
Short, snappy, opinionated reviews of this city's pubs, bars and clubs, which more of us might find our way to because of the Millenium Stadium. And you'll need to find a pub to stay in while you wait six hours for the traffic to clear the place.
