Bar Ha Ha Canteen

Jim's York Pub Guide

Bar Ha Ha
Another new pub opens up to challenge the Pitcher and Piano, Slug and Lettuce, Harkers and Varsity with the same style and pitch for custom. Fresh paint, fresh wood and friendly staff everywhere. Fresh ideas? Bit of a lack in this department. Bar Ha Ha is a chain that began life in Bristol (and I've been in it, a template for here) and this is their furthest venture North so far. There are fourteen others. It looks like food is their speciality, with a big kitchen up the back and menus plastered everywhere. The Brunch menu appealed to me with it's bacon sandwiches. There are the usual style necessities - the comfy sofas, the lack of Real Ale, the newspapers lying around (plus point!) but it's all fairly deja vu. As I stood supping my pint, I thought I'd probably not be back soon unless it was with my other half, and that's when it struck me - places like this are going all out to attract the girls. Get them, and the boys will follow. And for the next six months at least, I bet they get them in droves.
