One of York's newer cafe bars, but honestly
it's the same old same old. Take Bar 38 and the Pitcher and Piano, join
one onto the other, and hey presto, Casa. It's a big enough place, bright
and breezy with nice big windows overlooking the Ouse, where you can
sit and look out at the punters freezing their arse off at the King's
Arms down below. Or take a seat and await the table service while flicking
through the Tapas menu. Yes, they serve Tapas, just like Bar 38 and
the Pitcher and Piano - what a surprise! I didn't look at the main menu.
Didn't have to. I'd guess Thai Chicken with Stir Fried Vegetables, Cumberland
Sausage with Gravy and Garlic Mash, Filo Vegetable Parcels with Hoi
Sin....enough to make you scream for a KFC. The place was full of students
when I visited, or bright young things, some who were extremely guttered.
God, how I wish for Saturday afternoons when I'd nothing to do but sit
around chewing the fat and getting rat arsed. But I'd have chosen a
less pretentious bar than Casa's to do it in.
