Once highly popular with York residents and aspiring hacks from the offices of the nearby Evening Press, I was taken aback the last time I visited on a Friday night as there were about 5 people in. The place used to be buzzing day and night. It was recently refurbished, and I haven't yet revisited, but obviously it was losing its allure. It used to be a no frills, good food, real ale haven and it will be interesting to see what it's reborn as. Let's think: wooden floors, stainless steel everywhere, comfy sofas, poncy meals served on big white dinner plates? Lets bloody well hope not. | |
