The Grapes

Jim's York Pub Guide

The Grapes
When my brother visited York, this was the first pub I took him to as he suffers from hemorrhoids. Dark and moody, but also cozy and comfortable, The Grapes offers a viable alternative to the nearby King's Arms down by the river. Has an upstairs that overlooks the main bar and reminds one of Begbie's pint throwing escapade in "Trainspotting". Not likely to happen here, although proximity to the theatre means an occasional luvvie may drop in for a port and lemon. I like to pop in here for a quick pint when I'm waiting for a Chinese takeaway in the nearby Jade Garden, who use so much MSG you need to take on extra liquid beforehand.
