| Quite near to York City's football ground is one reason for visiting. Their concrete beer garden with open vistas to Clifton Green and the horrendously busy A19 out of and into the city, is one reason for not. There's a bookies across the road though, so on the relevant afternoons you can order up a pint, nip across the road to put on a line, and pop back to watch the race on TV. (The bookie's name is Baz Oxtoby. Didn't he used to be the cool dude in Happy Mondays?) It seems quite gloomy inside, and the pub is well served by regulars, added to when York City are playing. They do attempt to make children welcome too, which will be a bonus when my boy wants to support the local team. | ||
