| You're drinking in the Judge's
Cellar, actually, unless you're in his garden. His house has been converted
into a hotel and restaurant, neither of which have I visited. The bar is
divided into three small, brick-walled, low-ceilinged rooms, with not a
lot of space at the bar when it is busy. In the summer this is often the
case, as it has one of the most popular beer gardens in York, out in front
as opposed to through the back, and it can be difficult getting a plastic
B&Q patio seat to sit on. This means it looks like a happening place
though, and has the effect of attracting lots more passing trade, unless
it is chucking it down. You might miss the entrance to the bar if you're
not careful - it's the small door to the left as you approach the hotel.
Looks like the tradesman's entrance, and probably was. Click here for short history. |
