If you're searching for pubs in York that differ from the trendy theme bars, or shabby
localised regulars, then the Lendal Cellars is not to be missed. It's exactly what is says it is - a cellar converted
to an atmospheric and well tended pub. I notice, however, that it's recently become part of the Hogshead chain.
What is it with this need for "branding"? I prefer to think of the Lendal Cellars as unique to York,
not just another form of a bar in Wigan where I'd a great night out with my mates. I could go on. I mean, what
if Little Chef decide to move into brewing and buy this place? Notwithstanding that, do visit and enjoy the feeling that you'll not have a pint in quite the same surroundings anywhere else in the UK. Unless, of course, you wander a hundred yards up the road to The Judges Lodgings. |
