The Cock and Bottle

Some say that pubs with this name are called because they sell food (cock) and drink (bottle). Others attest it is due to "cock" being an old word for spigot or tap, and hence the pub sells draught and bottled beers. Still others maintain it is because cock fights would be held here in the dim and distant. Take your pick.
