Oscars

Jim's York Pub Guide

xxxxxxxxxxxx

Oscars Oscars is situated in what is becoming York's Wine Bar/Bistro enclave, with the new Kennedy's, the Slug and Lettuce, Kites and Wildes all within spitting distance. Out of all of these, I'd pick Oscars, with its outdoor courtyard and its aged interior suggesting it was here first. I also like the layout, with small rooms and corners to nestle down in and an upstairs overflow for busy periods. Food is tasty and slightly different, they cater for kids and the atmosphere is generally lively and bright. Complaints? The bar area is too small for the popularity of the place and I sometimes get the feeling that Oscars and its clientelle think it's York's best wine bar by a long chalk. Casting aside such personal prejudices though, Oscars is well worth a visit.
