| Ancient place, claiming to be one of York's oldest pubs. So do many others, but this has a more authentic feel than most. Check out the old baker's oven installed in the lounge. There's also quite a lot of other information posted around the place telling you of its history, and what it may or may not have been during its lifetime. It certainly has an ancient enough pub name. As in most old pubs, it feels as if it's been thrown together and doesn't fit quite right, but it means if you're not comfy in one part of the pub you can move to another and it seems different. Good place to come for a warm winter's evening, where you can have a chat without being blasted out the door, although with about three open fires burning, you may be roasted instead. Beer garden better in the summer, 'cause it is quite dull inside. Small bar too, and could do with a better selection of beer on offer. | |
