Having a pint in here reminded of the old
Confucian saying: The best time to open a pub was two hundred years
ago; the second best time is now. It's not a bad place, but visiting
shiny new places gives you the impression that this is a shiny new place
with not enough beer and nicotine infused decor, where things haven't
quite found their rightful place yet and overall that it just hasn't
quite settled in. Infact, my immeadiate impression was that this place
should be selling clothes or something, 'cause it looked more like a
shop than a pub. It's painted in cool blue, with the usual light wood
fittings and the bar area was a sparkling chrome. There's a kind of
conservatory through the back, where you can view the Three Legged Mare
in the garden while you sup your pint. As the pub is owned by the York
Brewery, they have their own beer and quite a few guests on offer as
well as a selection of unusual bottled foreign stuff. It was full of
students under twenty when I visited, supplemented by people who were
over thirty but who were also students once (like me!) So if you fancy
a cross between the Slug and Lettuce and The Maltings, this might be
the place for you.
